Es waren vor allem die Trainingsstudien von
Susanne
Jaeggi und Co.
(2008), die dem Forschungsgebiet des Intelligenztrainings wieder neues Leben
einhauchten.
In ihren Experimenten ließ sich ein dosisabhängiger Effekt des
Dual-N-Back-Trainings auf (fluide) Intelligenztestaufgaben beobachten:
Je mehr trainiert wurde, desto größer fielen die Effekte
aus. Manch ein prominenter
Forscher kam zu dem Schluss: „Fluid intelligence is trainable to a significant and meaningful
degree”
(Sternberg, 2008). So überzeugend
die Ergebnisse auf den ersten Blick auch schienen, so wurden die Experimente in der
Folge doch Zielscheibe heftiger Kritik (Hauptkritikpunkte: Unkonventionelle
Verwendung der Intelligenztests; keine aktive
Kontrollgruppe ).
Mittlerweile liegen auch Trainingsstudien von unabhängigen Forschergruppen
(z.B. Redick et al.
2012 ) vor, die die Wirksamkeit
des Trainings (zumindest unter bestimmten Bedingungen) in Frage
stellen.
